One of our two aged coffees, Old Brown Java coffee's story starts in the 16th century. The Indonesian coffee beans were originally used as ballast in the bottom of boats, and based on the colour of the beans as they aged, the sailors knew how long they'd been at sea. While no longer travelling by boat, our beans are still aged as green beans, for at least two years. As they mature, they turn from green to brown, growing in flavour while losing some of their natural acidity. If you want a brew with a back story, you can't go wrong with Old Brown Java coffee beans.
