As the name suggests, Sumatra Mandheling coffee beans are grown in Indonesian Sumatra, cultivated on Mount Leuser where the soil is rich in volcanic ash: an ideal environment for growing coffee. This unique Indonesian Sumatra coffee is sometimes also known as Tim Tim, as it originated from Timor Island.

Sumatra Mandheling coffee beans also look different to most. They have a distinctive blue, glassy colour until they're roasted fully, and an unusual, rather long shape, so have a look before you grind.

But don't let appearances fool you. Sumatra Mandheling is not for the faint of heart, and it is definitely one of our strongest single-origin coffees.
