The long coffee growing season here, is extended by the warm and gentle trade winds and ocean currents which together with the moderate climate allows the coffee cherry (fruit) to ripen very slowly on the coffee plants producing a high quality coffee bean. Coffee is picked almost all year round on the island, although the peak harvest period takes place from November to May, peaking in April. The farmers actively promote sustainable harvesting using the most modern quality standards to preserve the rainforest and their community. Many Dominicans rely on coffee as a way of life which makes them strive to produce a great cup every time.
