Roasting notes/tips:

This coffee is aged, so visually it is very very different, a little drier that its green friends, so a little less heat to start helps the Old Brown Java. Some roasters used to roast this within an inch of its life and produce black oily beans, thank goodness this seems to have lost fashion. Try this on its own and with Santos.

One of our two aged coffees, Old Brown Java's story starts in the 16th century. The coffee beans were originally used as ballast in the bottom of boats and based on the colour of the beans as they aged, the sailors knew how long they’d been at sea.

Hailing from Indonesia, the Old Brown Java that I’ve picked is aged for at least two years. A bit of a Marmite coffee – love it or hate it – you must try it. Of course, I like it, but I also like marmite. If you haven’t tried this, it’s one for the list.

Ideal to brew in a paper filter to maintain its mature flavour profile in its cleanest, purest flavour.

The flavour of these Arabica coffee beans is truly unique, and similar only to our Monsoon Malabar in spiciness. The musky complex aromas are matched by the rustic earthy flavour notes. The long finish and big body makes this coffee especially impressive.
