What is single origin coffee?

Single origin merely means that we can link the coffee back to one traceable source. Think of it like wine. Just as wine comes from specific vineyards, single origin coffee beans come from a single region or farm.

This means they have a unique flavour profile that is influenced by factors like altitude, climate, soil, and processing methods.

What should I look for when buying single origin coffee?

As with any premium product, there are always imitators trying to make money with lesser quality produce. For high quality beans: look for beans that specify the region or farm they're from.

Pay attention to the roast level, as a lighter roast will bring out more of the coffee's natural flavours. And don't forget to check the freshness date! Fresher is always better.

How to brew single origin coffee

Anyway that you like! Single origin coffee beans work the same way as any other coffee beans. However, the best way to brew single origin coffee tohighlight its unique flavours, is by using a method that doesn’t mask the notes - aka without milk.

Pour-over methods like Chemex orV60are ideal as they allow you to control the water temperature and extraction time, butAeropressand black espressos can work too.

What is the best single origin coffee?

That's a tough one! The "best" coffee is subjective and depends on your personal taste.

However, some highly regarded single origin coffees come from regions like Ethiopia, Kenya, and Colombia. But for the best selling beans we’d have to say Hawaiian Kona and Jamaica Blue Mountain are up there with the best.
